Saladaeng Colonnade started out
as a private residence, long before service apartments existed in
Thailand. In fact in the 1950's there were every few hotels in the
Siamese capital, and almost no apartments in Bangkok. Travel to
Thailand was still a novelty and hotels were limited to a few near
the river and budget & business accommodation in Chinatown. Saladaeng Road was and still is, a highly desirable residential district, linking Silom and Sathorn Roads. In fact a few single story wooded houses still remain, and can be glimpsed through the trees and from apartment rooftops, testimony to a gracious lifestyle in the City of Angels. Today Silom Road is better known as the Wall Street of Bangkok whilst Sathorn is considered to be Embassy Row. |

Saladaeng Colonnade was the
first service apartments to be built on Saladaeng Road. Originally
Saladaeng Colonnade was known just as 21, Soi Saladaeng. It was a
wooden two story house built for the current owner's grandfather. It
had a small garden, lotus ponds and pomegranate trees and was one of
the more modest houses on the highly desirable residential street. The current 7 story building is only 11 years old and houses a mix of private residences, services apartments, the extremely popular Zanotti restaurant and a small bistro. |
